Since leaving my main job to become a surface pattern designer, I knew I needed to create a space to be creative in and realised sharing a table in the sitting room with my son, who is also and artist has its draw backs, the interaction we have with each other is fine but the mess and lack of space not so good.
So I made a decision to create a space to work (I will have to think of another word as I don’t feel being creative as work but as a fundamental part of my daily life). I decided I could not afford to rent a place away from home and to be frank I love my flat and I have great views and the natural light is fantastic.
So I chose my bedroom, I have spent a long time working it out so that I could make it a viable creative space and still be my bedroom and a good place to sleep.
So since leaving work and with little funds I set about the making my dream a reality, so I painted, sanded and even laid a tile floor, my dad kindly came down and put in a desk for me.
I am so happy with the end result and can’t stop smiling, dreams do come true, so here I am sitting at my beautiful desk, smiling and planning the next part of my creative journey.
Module 2 starts next week and my creative space is ready and so am I. My confidence of my abilities is like nothing I have ever felt before and the support from my fellow on-line pattern making community is so valuable.
I feel a sense of calm and satisfaction and am ready to give 100% in the continuing journey of becoming a Surface Pattern Designer
